MR WALKER AT MAYFIELD.

On Saturday evening Mr Walker addressed the electors at Mayfiel|: school-, room. Mr Kellahah, chairmaii of the School Committee was m the ciiair, and briefly introduced the candidates wellknown to all. Mr Walker, who was received with applause, spoke for! an hour on the lilies of former addresses,; pointing out the necessity of electing representatives for agricultural districts, who would support fair treatment to the agricultural interests m respect of the questions of the day—taxation, administration of the land laws, settlement of the land, and railway management. The meeting was the largest ever held m the district, and gave a very attentive hearing to the candidate, frequently applauding the enunciation of his views on the questions spoken upon, After answering a great many questions m a manner that satisfied the meeting on land settlement, local option, borrowing, Mr Walk«r received a hearty vote of thanks on tho motion of ,Mr Dillon, seconded by Mr Keaney. A vote of thanks to tho chairman concluded a most successful meeting.

Tanwti Parata has been re-elected for the Southern Maori electorate, >ith 148 votes ; Ijfciie Make HapelO7 ; Temairaki Taiaroaw; Raniera Erihani 51. Stewart's Island returns are not yet m,, but it is "expected they will increase the successful candidate's majority.
