Hakd Cases.—Thomas Kelly, alias King, alias Liverpool Jack was charged with being drunk, with assaulting Joseph Vincent and Patrick Laffy, and with using disgusting and obscene language m a public place. From the evidence of several witnesses it was shown that the assaults were most cowardly and unprovoked, and the victims bore marks that will not disappear for some time. It took four men to get accused to the lock up, and the language used on the railway platjform was of a most filthy and disgraceful character. The record of previous convictions was bad, and accused was not long out after serving three months. For being drunk accused was committed for 48 houi-M, for assaulting Vincent 14 days, assaulting Laffy 14 days, and for the obscene language six months hard labor. Sentences to be cumulative, Joseph Clarkson, alias Kelly, a mate of the previous accused,' received 48 hours for being drunk ; and lot resisting' the police and others m the execution of their duty when arresting Liverpool Jack and thre tening'them, he received 6ne mon ,' hard labor. . ■ '■
