The case of the Robinson family came before the Benevolent Trustees to-day. The woman, who had been charged with larceny, had asserted that she stole the articles to procure food for her children. The chairman said that the family had received some assistance some time ago, and when the woman had approached him he had sent her to the secretary to get an order for relief, hut she never went. It was shown that both the husband and wife were given to drink, and quarrelled and fought. Robinson, who was present, pleaded fer one more chance before the children were taken away, and as the matter ha t been taken up by some outsiders, who were providingfurniture, food, and clothing, the case was adjourned for two weekly, to see how they behaved. Robinson ackel that a prohibition order be taken out against him, but he was recommended to act like a man. Invercakgill, July 29. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Lindley Bowerman sued Thomas Lambert, hotelkeeper, for £2o l(ss, damages sustained m consequence of the loss, on the 13th of May, of a buggy.from defendant's premises while plaintiff was a lodger m the hotel. The bugtry was m defend mt's custody, and lie negligently suffered it to be stolen. Bowerman was engaged m celivering the " Picturesque Atlas" m the district at the time, and it was supposed some irate subscribers made away with the trap, t>o trace of which has since been found. Mr Moore, owner of the buggy, reeovi red the amount now sued for from Bowerman. Or the application of defendant the case was adjourned to the 12th of August.
