The Carmo Affair.

Nai'ieu. July 25. The Committee of the H.B.J.C. to-day drew up the following findings on the Warepa affair :—" That the baygol.ling that ran at the town and surburban race meeting, on May 26 last under the name of Carmo is the same horse that ran at Flemington, Victoria, m 1886 under the name of Problem, and also ran at Forbury, Otago, m 1886 under the name of Warepa, and also ran at Westport on December 26 last, and at Grey mouth on December 31 and January 1 last under the name of Redeem. The Committee finds that the horse Problem was disqualified for ever m 1886 by the Punedin Jockey Club, and this Club endorsed that decision. The following is a description of the horse ;— Light bay gelding, aged, about sixteen hands, white blaze down face, two white hind points extending up over the fetlock joints, white marks over the coronet on the fore legs, both fore hoofs have been tampered with, brand off-side close to the mane. The Committee disqualifies for life Sydney G, Parkes, of Wellington, owner ; William Parkes, of Wellington, owner j Bernard Ferras, late of Wairarapa nominator ; and George $m.ith, late <-f '■* c Hutt, Wellington, trainer of the aforesaid gelding. In the course of the enquiry the Committee found that several persons had had a knowledge of the fraud, and although not directly connected with the horse are more or less placed under suspicion. These persons are cautioned that their conduct will be closely watched m the future. The t|ommittpe considers that the Stewards of the 1 Town and Suburban Racing Club showed a'great lack" 1 of appreciation of their duties m ajlowing the horse to start, and'in consequence orders them to '^ay the pqsjtsj p,f t)|e enquiry. That a cbyy of the ij-boyp be forwarded to all the Bletrcpol'itan clubs' m the colony, and thfjt they be asked m view of the circuinstanqes of thp case and the difficulty involved m conducting the inquiry, to take 'especial care that all the persons mentioned be warned off any and all courses under their control, and that all Australian .Jockey Clubs be notified of the facts.??'
