Wellington, December 1. Samuel Tinuuins, apparently a youth m his teens, pleaded "Guilty" to having committed an assault on a young girl at Foxton, and was sentenced to foiuteen days' imprisonment with hard labor. Tl.e prisoner wan committed for trial on a charge of assault with intent, bub the grand jury found no bill on this indictment, bringing m a true bill for a common assault. .las. Carl ton, f"r the larceny of several articles of jewellery, received six months' hard labor. Atthur Robinson, a youth of nineteen, who had two previous convictions recorded against him, pleaded 4' Guilty " to a charge of stealing from the person, and was sentenced to twelve months' hard labor. His Honor said he feared that fche prisoner was one of those persons who were likely to become a great pest to society, roaming about Jie streets and living upon drunken men. H. P. Fisher, alias Gilbert, was found '' Not guilty " on a charge of obtaining a suit of clothes under false pretences. Henry Waiters, alias Dutch Harry, was found " Guilty " of burglary, and was sentenced to twelve months' hard labor. Prisoner's counsel unsuccessfully raised the plea that his client was a kleptomaniac. Blenheim, December 1. In the Supreme Courb jesterday and to-day an action was tried m which Charles Lucas was plaintiff aud the Colonial Bank of New Zealand defendant, claiming a refund of £600, amount of a promissory aote alleged tc have been wrongfully obtained by the Bank, and damages for the wrongful sale by the Bank as mortgagee of plaintiff's farm. The jury found a verdict for the plaintiff for the amount of the promissory note and £420 damages for the sale of the farm which, with interest, amounts altogether to nearly £1400. Mr Sinclair, appeared for the plaintiff and Messrs Gully and Conolly for the defendants. Bax v the " Pelorus Guardian " newspaper, to recover £LOOO damages for an alleged libel m connection with the nursing and treatment of the lats H. A. Gaskill, was commenced this afternoon before Mr Justice Richmond and a special jury of twelve. Dunedin, December 1. Sentences were passsed as follows :— Patrick O'Shea, for sheep stealing, nine months ; John Gillison, for house breakng, three years ; Henry Billings was found not guilty of stealing a cheque, bub there are seven other charges against him.
