Ashburton School.
A special meeting of the Ashburton School Committee was held on Saturday night, when Mr Craighead presided, and Messrs Bean, Braddell, Barrett, Paul, and Silcock were present. The headmaster's report was read and gave scholars on the roll—Boys, 281; girls, 259—total, 540 ; highest attendance, 476; strict average, boys, 247>5 ; girls, | 203 ; total, 450 5. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education and the headmaster i re pupil teachers, and it was arranged for the Chairman to reply and endeavor to retain one senior pupil teacher for another year in the school. It was decided that the Christmas holidays extend to four and a half weeks, and that the distribution of prizes and children's entertainment take place in St Stephen's schoolroom on the evening of the brpaking-up day, when the Mayor would be abked to preside and distribute the prices. Sub-Committees were appointed for thn purchase of prizes and for making arranseiTients for the prize distribution. The Committee decKed to meet again before the breaking up took place. The Visiting Committee reported . on some repairs that bad been seen to," and the Committee adjourned.
