The National Association have passed a resolution expressing' the opinion that m order that New Zealand residents only should exercise the franchise, the right to vote at Parliamentary elections should be restricted to persons who have been living for not le.^s than twelve months m the colony. Mr Ballance, m a speech delivered by him on the question of the payment of members, stated that Mr Hutchison had signed a paper asking the Government to bring m a bill to increase the amount paid. Mr Ballance also printed the statement m his paper, the "Wanganui Herald." It is alleged that it is contrary to faofc, and therefore libellous, hence the action. Haweka, January 6. At the Magistrates Court yesterday, W. Buckley, of Waitara, was charged with stealing sheep at Eltham. He was commifced for trial, bail being allowed m one surety of £100, which was obtained. Wellington, January 6, W. H. Lockwood. a. station cook, who is supposed to be related to the famous firm of Lockwood Bros, was found dead m his room at Orr's hotel, Martinborous;h, this morning. He had been suffering from an aggravated attack of influenza during the past week.
