Railway Servants Society.

[PBR PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Wellington, August 3. A deputation from the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants waited on Mr Seddoti to-night, and explained differences between the Commissioners ■\u<\ the Society, and the various resolutions which the conference had passed. Mr Seddon said he would place the suggestion as to boards of appeal before h's colleagues and the Commissioners, and if possible a clause would be inserted m the Government Bill giving effect to the wish of the society. He could assure the deputation that the Government would do the best m their power to get a Boards of Conciliation Bill passed this session. With reference to the friendly societies certificate m cases of illness he could not see why a doctor could not give a duplicate certificate which would meet the case. He failed to see why the Commissioners could not grant a holiday to the men on Labour Day. He would meet the Commissioners on the matters brought forward by the deputation and would endeavor to bring the employees and the Commissioners together on more friendly terms. He was glad to see the spirit which had animated the deputation, and hoped to see redress given to the men's grievances. Mr Hoban remarked that if the Com. missioners agreed to recognise the Society, he and Mr Edwards, who were outside the railway, would resign their positions m the Society afc once.
