The Robs Bankruptcy.

(VER PEESS ASSOCIATION.) TVtauu, January 18. At the District Uuurt to-day, a case arising out of D. M. Ross' bankruptcy was begun. Application was made on behalf of the creditors to have set aside a. mortgage of £3001), Ross to his daughter. Mr Stewart (Dunedin) with Mr Kinnerny for the assignee; Mr Joynt (Christchurchj with Mr Hay for Miss Ross. Mr Stewart-, in opening, ran back to 1876, when Poss tagan dealings in his mother's name, and asked the Court to infer, from facts to be proved, that this was a fraudulent device. The mortgage in question purported to be transferred from Ross' mother (dated 1889, and not registered until J892) five days before the bankruptcy. Locil evidence was given that Miss Ross had no means to acquire property in the first instance. JVlr 0. H. Franks, solicitor, Ohris'chiircli, made a search in the Land Registry Office, Christchurch, for atll documents bearing the name of Mary Ross. Mr J. M. Batham, the Registrar, was called to produce these documents— sixty or seventy of them. N. Wolfe, Chnstchurch, an expert in handwriting, testified that in everyone of a number of c ises shown him the signature, "G. Ross," on these documents resembled the same word in the body written by D. M. Ross, and wag unlike v a provable genuine signature of Mrs Ross. One witness stated that Miss Ross told him was unaware of any property in her iidmo. Timaru, January 191 The hearing was continued to-day. Mr Thomas Robson, new of Sydney, who wus clerk and book-keeper to the firm of Tate and Boss in 1876, and subsequently to D. M. Ross and then to Rohs, Sims and Co., gave evidence, but his examination had not been concluded when the Court adjourned till January 31, his Honor having to go to Oamaru.
