Wellington, March 20. Four Native men and eleven women were sentenced on Saturday, at Whakai tone, to one month I imprisonment in Auckland gaol for obstructing the survey. The Resident Magistrate would have let the women off, but failed to get a satisfactory answer to the question whether : they would discontinue their opposition |to the survey. One woman failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. The steamer left for Auckland with the prisoners on Saturday night. No demonstration was made. Mr Creftfith, burveyor, has been instructed to go on with his work, but to be careful to give no cause of unnecessary irritation. Orders have been issued to the police in case of further obstruction to take similar action again. The public-house at Whakatane was closed by Mr Bush, 8.M., while the case was tircceeding.
