ROAD BOARDS.
UPPER ASHBURTGN;
The monthly meeting of the Upper Ashburton Road Board was held on Monday May 29. Present—All the members. EtECTIOJtr. The Glerk took the chair, and stated as returning officer that the annual elections hid resulted in the return of the previous members (Messrs Stit\ Campbell and Tucker). Mr McLean was again unanimously elected Chairman. The business of the Board was then proceeded with. ■ CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence waa received;— From Mr F. Powell; forwarding prices for poisoned grain. From Mr C. M. Brooke, also forwarding prices for poisoned grain.—It w<*s resolved to ask the County Council to pay to this Board in cash half the Board's allowance for poisoned wheat. From Mr P. Grace, applying for the use of the shinglo reserve abot% the township of Winslow^—The matter was held over for consideration. From Mr G. H. Dowding, drawing the Board's attention to the dangerous state of the river ford at Black's road.-—The Clerk stated he had fenced across the road, and advertised the road as Stopped until the crossing could be made safe. From Mr W. Doheicy, asking the Board to have the gorse cleared off the road that runs from the Alford Forest road to the Iforth Ashburton River opposite Mr Grealey's property.—Tba Clerk was instructed to look into the matter. From the Auditor-General, returning the Board's balance-sheet for the year ending March 31, 1893, duly certified. GRAVEL. i The Clerk was instructed to write to the Commissioner of Crown Lnnds, asking him to grant to this Board two acres on Section 6. part Reserve 350, (Poole s road) for a gravel reserve. It whs decided to ask the County Council to grant permission to this Board to open a gravel pit at the north end of the plantation reserve, section 26522, Chertsey, : ■.. ...... GORSE. , , =-;.,; The Clerk was instructedto write to Mr Maginnis re the growth of gorse on the road near the storm water channel, and request him to have it cleared. •■• '■• '. • WORK. • ■ :- ■ ■•■" J It was decided to shingle as required the road from Winslow past Mr Sawle's to the Swamp road, and the matter was left in the hands of the Chairman. The tender of Mr C. Smith el and Co. was accepted for both formation and shingling required on Remmington's road. Accounts amounting to £121 7s were passed for payment, and the Board ad- ? journed*
