TEE CRIMINAL CODE BILL.
The Justices of the Peace who have to administer a large proportion of our criminal laws will find the Criminal Oode, as just passed by Parliament, of real value—that is, after it has been so indexed that its parts immediately applicable to the cases before their Worships can be found at once. The roll of the great unpaid throughout this colony would take a compositor about a week to put in type. But only a few hours of his time would be occupied in setting up the names of tho^e on that roll whose knowledge of the law is comprehensive enough and sufficiently exact to enable them to depend upon themselves and not upon the Clerk of Court, to be independent of the advice of the prosecuting constable, fearless of the 'bounce" of defending counsel, and regardless of his warnings. The new code Avill materially help ihem to a better understanding of exactly how the law stands, and anything calculated to save the time of business men who give that time free to the service of the community ought to bo welcomed, as well as anything calculated to make that service more efficient,
