LABOR ITEMS.
London, September 30. The Miners' Federation have refused to interview the masters, but decided to allow members of the federation to resume work at the old rate of wages, the men doing so to pay Is per day to the strike fund. It is expected that 50,000 men will at once return to work. The London Trades Council are appealing for funds to assist the miners out on strike. It is. stated that many thousands of women and children are starving,their only food being raw potatoes. The coal owners have issued a manifesto, offering to submit the dispute to arbitration.They state that they only desire that wages shall follow prices. The labor leaders intend to appeal to Australia for help for the distressed miners and their families. October 1 The t( Morning Post'? says that dissension among British miners is encouraging Australia to compete in the coal markets.
