A meeting of the Executive was held at Melbourne on Friday, when it was decided that the capital sentence passed on Mrs Kaorr alias Thwaites should be carried out. Mr Audley Ooote, M.LO. of Tasmania, iepresentative in Australia of the Societe Francaise dcs Telegraphs Sousinarins, states that a syndicate is ready to lay a fresh cable. There are over 100 candidates for the two vacancies on the staff of the Auckland University Council.- Sir Walter Buller and Bishop Selwyn are not assisting in the selection. In the House of Commons Mr Bigby, Solicitor-General, replying to a question in reference to the status of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg (Prince Alfred) as Sovereign Prince, said he did not owe allegiance to the Queen of England, The New South Wales Premier has replied to the Premier of Victoria that as the other colonies had agreed to invite the Duke of York to visit the colonies, New South Wales would not stand out. Mr Henry Reynolds, of New Zealand, has resigned the secretaryship of the Colonial Butter Committee, giving as his reason that some members are selling far below the official price. Nelson Bros, are opening freezing stores for butter, so as to enable importers to regulate the market. The London "Times" states that the entire body of Roman Catholics in Italy are in a state of revolt against the politics enunciated by the Vatican, and all the Cardinals, with the exception of Cardinal Rampolla, Secretary of State to his Holiness the Pope, are I friendly towards the Triple Alliance.
