HOPEFUL PROSPECTS.

Sydney, December 30. The New South Wales Treasurer is sanguine that there will be a surplus at the end of the year, and declares the expectations of the revenue are more than realised ; also that in spite of an unprecedented year of financial diffi- | culties, he will be able to present an excellent array of figures, and has no hesitation in stating that the colony is now in a sound financial position. Unless something unfortunate happened the coming year will be a highly satisfactory and prosperous one.

(Received December 30, 11.30 a.m.)
