THE ANTI-PROPERTY TAX LEAGUE.

Siu, —It is now over threo weeks ago (17th January) that the Anti-Property Tax Committee wad appoiuteil to con vene a public meeting; and yet we hear nothing of the meeting., What is 6fcill more curious is . that although they have driven Dr. Laishley to secede on the ground thac they, as a Committee, absolutely decline ta identify themselves with promoting abolition ot the tax by retrench mo: it, vet, tWsb on turning to the report of the public meeting held at tho New Zealand insurance Company's building on the I7t/ii ulto. we rind that one of the two original conveners, tiie present Hon. Secretary and a Committeeman, Mr Muir, said, "Tlioy had como there to abolish the property tax and put nothing in its place tie, for one, would'take no part in the movement if the burden was only to be taken from one shoulder to be placed upon another." Whilst Mr F. Hull, the other convener at the same meeting, and also a Committeeman, said " tha». the object waa to form an anti-property tax and retrenchment league."
