THE MISSING DEBTOR.
The meeting of creditors in the estate of Lacy Tibbits. .Williams, wholesale agent, whose whereabouts are at present unknown, was continued at the official assignee's office after we went to press yesterday afternoon. It was decided to dispose of the fittings and furniture by public auction. The assignee inquired if there was any information that might b<? given by Mrs Williams, with reference to her financial affairs. Mr Clarke, one of the creditors, said that bankrupt had concluded the purchase of a fine house at Epsom at a cost of £1150. The house was elaboratelyfurnished. He could not say who found the money, but he knew tEat bankrupt was the purchaser. The house was now occupied by Mrs Williams, who was stated to be the owner. ■ Several creditors expressed a desire to know how Mrs Williams became possessed -of the house, whereupon the assignee intimated that he would summon her before him to give the information required. Mr Playfort here intimated that Williams' clerk had also gone away with his employer. In reply to a question, the assignee said that before further steps were taken they had first better ascertain the whereabouts of the debtor. It was pointed out that the difference between the assets and liabilities amounted to only about £200, and it was not desirable to incur heavy expense. The meeting then adjourned sine die.
