SCIENCE AND ART.
BOARD'S ANNUAL MEETING. WELLINGTON, this day. The annual meeting of the. Board of Science and Art was held to-day. Tlie Hon. R. F. Bollard, who welcomed tlie members, said there was much in their record for which they deserved the thanks of the community and the Government. Their work had been recognised by other countries. A step iv the right direction was the appointment of a board to consider the best means of preserving articles of-Maori workmanship. He referred in appreciative terms to Sir Harold Beauchamp's gift of a valuable property, the rents of which are to be devoted to providing funds for a national art gallery. The meeting endorsed these remarks, and decided to urge for a bill regulating the sales of gas in terms of the calorific value. Mr. H. X. Gore announced that the Xew Zealand Academy of Fine Arts had in course of preparation a scheme which it hoped to bring nearer realisation— the establishment of a National Art Gallery.
