THE PORT ELLIOT.

DEEPER IN THE REEF. WIND AND SEA INCREASING. EIGHT PERSONS STILL ABOARD (Br Telegraph—Press A__w__tion.) GISBORNE, this day. There is no remarkable change this morning in the position of the steamer Port Elliot. Te Araroa report* that the wind this morning freshened from the north-west and the sea is increasing. The vessels that have been standing by to work the cargo have gone to Hick's Bay. The Port Elliot remains -on an even keel, but appears to have shifted about 50 yards closer inshore, and to have sunk deeper into the reef. It is reported that there is a depth of ten feet of water right through her holds. The efforts made to float a hawser ashore have so far been unsuccessful.
