CAREER OF FRAUD.
AMAZING IMPOSITION. LONDON. January 3. An amazing career of fraud was disclosed at the trial of Winifred Page on three charges of false pretences. Page, who was described as an authoress, had previously obtained the sympathy of a wealthy woman by feigning blindness, afterwards stealing from her benefactress jewellery worth £73. Becoming involved with moneylenders. Page disappeared, and later reappeared as the wife of an American ambassador, thus gaining introductions to wealthy persons, who were defrauded. Posing as the wife of a titled colonel, Page started a fraudulent bridge club, inaugurated a company of girl guides, and collected for charities. When acting as cook at a Surrey mansion, Page, representing herself as the mistress, ordered sets of false teeth for the entire staff.
