SWIMMING NOTES.

•« Weekly Press and Referee." [By Lkanoer.l Writing to Sydney about tho visit to Christ* churoh of the New South Wjvlos team, Mr Wilkins, of the Enterprise Club, in referring - to the entertaining, says : —" We were made hon. members of the Pioneer Bicycle Olab, • Union Rowing Club, and the various swimming olubs in and around Ohristohuroh. Tbt Association entertained us at a harbour DicuJD on the 27th, a drag picnic to Koiapoi and Belfast on the 28th, another- one to Suftmir and Now Brighton on March Ist, and a third to Biooarton, Yaldhurat and Hornby on the 2nd. A regular succession of smoke concerts and eimilar functions were also arranged in oar honour, while every thing worth seeing, within an area of many miles, was shown to us. I never spent a more enjoyable time in my lito." In a telegram from a friend in Auokland the writer mentions that Fred Ltine, of New South Wales, and Tyler (reported last wew to have put up such good time over lOOyde • at the looal club's sports) happened to meet in the Albert street bath, when the Sydney man walked away from the Auoklander. , Qf oourse it w*a not a competition, as tbe visitor, in view of Tyler swimming at a meeting of a club not affiliated with t» New ZeftUnd Swimming Association, would, like the southern New Zeal&nden, probably not feel inclined to risk his statot, after what the New South Wales authorities decided on sending their representatives to I this colony. However, if it was anything like a go, it would seeni that Tyler's roported time might not be correct, because in tane'e present condition! don't think ho could pttt up anything like 66sec or 67sec, as Tyler vru timed to do. Of course, I have no information as to whether Tyler was trying to best Lane, but it is a pity that while in New Zealand! the flatter could not have met euch a good swimmer as Tyler must be; and it is to be hoped that the breach between Auokland and ! the governing body of New Zealand will be i healed at no distant date, and the whole of the swimmers be once more united under on» - head. By the way, Mr W. B. Eyre, the ex-Ohriatohnroh swimming and cycling • enthusiast, who has been resident at Auckland for some time now, is handicappei to - the local club, and is given great credit fat his work hi connection with their wcenl meeting. Since the above was in, type the following lis to hand from the Auckland correspondent of this journal:—Messrs Percy Cavill, F., Lane, C Aloook and P. Hudson, who represented New Bouth Wales at the recast championship meeting of the N.Z.A.S.A. at i Chrietohuroh, have been here, accompanied by Manager Phillips. Cavill, Lane and the [Auckland ewimmer, G. Tyler (who won the Auokland Association's 100 yds Championship last week) had a private swim together. The visitors also gave a private exhibition Oβ Saturday, and left for Sydney in the M. Eliogamite on Monday evening. a At the twenty-ninth annual dinner of tw - Otter 5.0., held on January 25th in London, Mr George H. Mr J."B« Wallace moved, and Mr Hendry seconded— " That a seleot committee, to consist of tw permit and standing committees, be «r , pointed to obtain all information and coliew evidence, to be presented at a special, meefr; ing on the 17th Inst." * The quarter mile championship of tee , Bathurst Swimming Club, decided o»V Febraaty 26th, was won by Bert White »; 6min 3Ogsee.
