Fine Pavilion For Bowling Club
Gifts of timber and a large l degree of voluntary labour' are providing jhe Waikari Bowling Club with a fine pavilion. Construction is nearing completion on a new timber building of about 1440 square feet. The building of 60ft by 24ft will include a kitchen with a servery, a small storeroom, toilets, and a clear floor area 51 feet long. Gift of Trees The project really got under way when Mr B. L. Blunden offered to provide the trees from which to mill the timber for the building. The trees were felled by voluntary labour and carted free to Culverden for milling Subsequently selected boards were taken to Amberley for dressing into 1} inch tongue and groved boards for flooring. Construction has been done under skilled supervision by an enthusiastic band of voluntary workers.
The electrical and plumbing installations have been done by tradesmen for the cost of materials only. The joinery fittings were factory made at normal trade prices. Nearly 8000 super feet of timber have gone into the building, which has- cost about $4.50 a square foot Work Still Progressing Initially only a portion of the building will be lined. This will be the area incorporating the kitchen and toilet facilities and a small length of the walls of the main hall. The rest of the hall will be lined as more funds become available. The undressed exterior boarding has been finished in dark stain with the facings to be picked out in white. Although work is still progressing, the building has been in use since October 12. when the club held its first inter-club tournament of the season.
