QUEENSTOWN.
(From «ur own V<jrre*p»mleni.) March 23, 1370. Since my last letter, there has bwen no thing particularly stirring taking place iu this district. Everyone seems to be preparing themselves for the coming winter, which, from present appearances, promise to be pretty severe. Regarding the outrage on the Ohiuoae at Moonlight Creek, nothing further h;.s been learnt likely to load to tho detection of the offenders. Government have issue i placards offering a reward of £SO for information leading to the detection of th;> criminals, but it is extremely improbable that even this will have the desired effect, as Europeans are not likely to inform whe.i it suits their interests o have " John" persecuted and driven from the district if possible. The discovery was made this morning that two stacks of grain belonging to Mr M'Larn, Prince of Wales Hotel, had been set fire to during the night—at least there is strong reasons for bdieving they wero wilfully fired, as they did not stand in t!i3 way of catching fire by accident. Tuo residents here have subscribed a hj mdsoma sum by way of reward to auyosn giving information as to the supposed inccmdiarisin. Mr Simpson and party have returned from their journey en route, to Martin's Biy. Mr Simpson only went as far as the H-dlyford River, I believe. It is state 1 that the making of a track will Wi much more difficult than was at iirat anticipated. The country is spoken of as showing good indications of gold. The additions to our new Court housf are being proceeded with rapidly. The alteration was much required, and the benefits derived from it will be experienced by both the Bench and the public. The new Presbyterian Church is to be formally opened on Sunday first, when three services wiil be held, at one of which the communion will be dispensed. The Rev. Father Nolan preached in the Catholic Chapel here on Sunday las;, I believe the rev. gentleman is collective: funds for the erection of a chapel near \AAbourne, and I have no doubt his call was liberally responded to by tho Catholic community in this district. * We have had a visit from Miss Dolly Green in her monologue entertainment, i am afraid that tho fair artinie did not realise a handsome return for her arduous trsk, as, on the night your correspondent was present, there were barely Hu'ikaent in the house to pay expenses. J trust she miybuve more numerous and appreciative audiences on tho trip through the lower gold-fields.
