ATHENÆUM HALL COMMITTEE.
An adjournecd meeting of the above Com- j mittee was held at the School-house on Friday ' evening, sth inst., and was attended by Messrs ; Baird (president), Taylor, Pretsch, Marsh (lion, sec.), Preshaw, Colclough, Foreman, Jolly, MacKellar, and Matthews. Draft minutes of the preceding meeting having been read, Mr M acKellar rose to correct an error in the ! wording of a resolution which had been proposed by him, and which it appeared had been misunderstood both by the Secretary and by the l Argus reporter. 11 is (Mr Mackellar s) resolu-j tion was to the effect “ that the manner in whiih the Athenamm Hall Committee should vote on the question of site should be determined by a 1 public meeting of tbe citizens of Cromwell specially convened;” and not ‘‘that the public! meeting should decide the question of site.” The resolution referred to was then recorded in the minute-book as follows “ That the site be determined by the votes of the shareholders in proportion to the shares held by them, and that the shares held by the Athenaeum Hall Committee be used in such vote as may be directed by a public meeting called for the purpose.” The minutes, as amended, were confirmed. In pursuance of the resolution previously agreed to in reference to the formation of a jointstock company, the seven gentlemen undermentioned were appointed provisional directors of the Athenamm Hall Company for a period of six months: —Messrs Baird, Preshaw, Taylor, Fraer, Jolly, Marsh, and Matthews. It was afterwards proposed and agreed to, after discussion, that a plain dress ball should take place on the 18th of the present month. Messrs Taylor, Baird, Pretsch, Jolly, Preshaw, Fraer, Sansom, Foreman, and Colclough were appointed stewards. It was stated that there was some probability of the succeeding entertainment (to he held on ; or about the date of full moon in August) being diversified by the performance of a burlesque | “ Bombastcs Furiosi)”—by a company of amateurs. The proposal was very favourably entertained by the Committee. 1t was also mentioned that the “ Kawarau Nightingales” were making active preparations for a second appearance on the sains date as that suggested for the dramatic , performance. In addition to the attractions above-mentioned, a number of our amateur vo- ; calists will most probably give their assistance, j Indeed, from all wo can learn in regard to it, the programme of the entertainment to he given on .the 22nd of next month will constitute “the • greatest bill of the season.”
