MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meetihg of the Connoil was held on Thursday evening, 25th inst. There were present,—Cr. Bawkins (in the chair), and Crs. Wright, Shanly, and Hayes. The meeting was opened punctually At 8 o'clock. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRBSPOtfDKNrjIS. The correspondence was then read. It consisted of letters despatched to the Town Clerks of Naseby and Lawrence J to the Chief Postmaster in re changing the postal name of the town to Cromwell j to the Commissioner of Police; and the memorial (of ffhich a copy was published last week) to his Honor the Superintendent in re altering the Width of the street. The outward correspondence was approved; and the appointment of Sergeant Cassels as Inspector of Nuisances was confirmed. Letters were received from the UnderSecretary, Wellington, notifying the appointment of the Mayor as a Justice of the Peace; from Commissioner of Police, approving of ] appointment of Sergeant Cassels as Inspector of Nuisances; from Secretary for Works, | Dunedin, informing Town-Clerk that the Goj vernment were prepared to pay over to the ! Corporation the sum of £3OO on being re- ; lieved of any further liability in re the maintenance of main road through the township jof Cromwell; and from the Town Clerk at •Queenstown. CoMMfIfTEB REPORT. I The report of the Legislative and Rate Committee was brought up, which recommended that clauses 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, and m of the " Municipal Corporations Act 1867" be adopted by the Cromwell Corporation. | Resolved, on the motion of Cr. Hayes, ■seconded by Cr. Wright, to adopt recommendation of report. ! In consequence of the paucity of attendance, it was decided to adjourn further business ; and a vote of thanks to the Chairman the proceedings.
