The public, we believe, were not expecting an accession to our military force from that quarter, and it will probably be in the nature of an agreable surprise to them, especially so, as the men are reported to be of the right Bort ; maHy of them, having medals for previous service to their country. Lieut. Mitchell who comes in command of the men seems to be popular with them, for they cheered him on his leaving the vessel yesterday. That gentleman informs us that many more Volunteers could bo obtained at Lyttelton if required. The most of the Volunteers who kavq cqmo by the ' "Wild "Wave' \rore enlisted at Ohri&tchurch.

The 'Neva.' — Another addition to the fleet of merchant vessels hailing from this povt has been made by the piu clime at San Francisco for Messrs. Heuderaon and Macfarlaue, of the schooner ' Neva,' 91 tons, Marshall master, which arrived in harbour about twelve o'clock on Thursday night, 40 days out from San Francisco. Very light winds and calms were experienced all through the northeast trades, and through the Boutli-east trades strong southerly -winds, with heavy sea from the southeast. She brings a heavy cargo of potatoes, wheat, and barley. The 'Neva' ha 3 repeatedly changed : owners, having originally been a gun-boat belongiug to the Russian navy, but was captured in the Bussian war. The field band of the regiment preceded, the,comi)anies, and played quick marches on the way. The rifle -volunteer.competition at the target, Mount'Eddtf, did not take place yesterday, owing to tho unfavourable nature of the weather in the morning.
