It is proposed by the Company to ERECT a substantial BUIDGE or Roadway across the ' Manukau, to connect the important district of MANGAEM with the i ort of ONEHUNGA ; and will very considerably lessen the distance between .Auckland ana the la.ge tract of agricultural laud', embracing Mangarei, Vukaki, lhumata, and the dutncts c beyond , , Jhe Provincial Government have agreed to grant ! to the Company the right to erect the said Bridge or Roadway, and levy and collect tolls thereon for the term of fifty years ; and have further agreed to - contribute one pound per acre for 1 all the confiscated^ lands in the district. It is confidently expected that, after the sale of the said confiscated lands, together with the erection • of the proposed Bridge, a considerable increase ofpopulation will accrue ; consequently there will be ay lanre amouut o£ payable traffic, and thus, at no distant period, will enable the Shareholders to receive a fair return for the capital invested ; besides which, the immense indirect benefits that will naturally and undoubtedly arUe from the project. It has beeu roughly estimated that a suitable Bridge or Roadway can be erected at a cost of ten thousand pounds, which sum is proposed to be raised by subscribing one thousand shares of ten pounds each, with limited liability, payable in eight quarterly instalments, of twenty-five shilling* • each, except the first payment, which will be five shillings, to be paid as deposit upou application for < . shares, and the remaining twenty shillings on th« first call. , * About two hundred and fifty shares still remain unsubscribed for, and all persons interested, as well - as the public generally, are invited to apply for the same without delay to the Secretary, who is authorised to obtain subscribers and receive deposits for the company. The projector, in starting a paper for the North, is" aware of the great amduut of responsibility that h* , ia undertaking in so doing. It will be at all times his study to>bring prominently forth the, wants of the several distnots, and the advantages to be derived by intending settlers. «-• The taper will represent, as truthtully as possible^ the commercial, agricultural, and social interests. The throwing open of the lands for location, and th* working of the Coal Minis, with -which the North abounds, will be thoroughly adrocated. It is needless to dilate on the advantages th« Bay and the several districts will 5 derive by having a local press to represent their interest*; and those who wish to open up a large and. influential coast trade will find it to their advantage to support the paper. .
