BOARD OF TRADE RETURNS.

The returns of the Board of Trade for January have just been issued, from which we gather that the total declared value of exports for the month was £14,354,748, against £10,489,339 in 1865, and £10,413,586 in 1864. Amongst the principal changes in the exports there is a decrease in firearms, aud also in gunpowder. Of beer aud ale there has been an increase. There has also been an increase iv coals and culm, and a considerable increase in cotton manufactures, the figures of fche latter being 172, 119, 828 yards, against 123,595,916 yards in 1865. Linen yarns have likewise increased, and linen, manufactures show an increase from 18,075,843 yards to 25,201,039 yards. The exportation of machinery has decreased, but iron and steel have increased. Silk manufactures have improved in value from £89,359 to £15t,596, and British spirits have declined from 120, 241 gallons to 73, 31 7 gallons. Of tea there was imported during the month of the present year 2,404. 1601b5. ; in 1865 the importation was 2,911,7341b. These has been a large increase in tobacco, and also in wine. With regard to the shipping trade, it; appears that in the month of January 2,527 vessels, 825,599 tonnage, employed in the foreign trade, were entered inwards, and 2,766 vessels, 912, 226 tonnage, cleared outwards. In the corresponding month of 1865 the number* were respectively 2,231 vessels, 605,112 tonnage, and 2,542 vessels, of 737, 650 tonnage. In the coasting trade for the mouth of January 9,216 ve e sels, 1,359,506 tonnage, entered inwards, and 9,566 vessels, 1,377,206 tonnage, cleared outwards. In the month or January, 1865, the numbers were respectively 11,421 vessels, 1,493,625 tonnage, and 10,849 vessels, 1,374,691 tonnage.— MitcMVa Maritime Register, March 10.
