GENERAL SUMMARY.
For years past we have not had such paucity of general news as in the present month. In politics bhere is nothing stirring. The Provincial Council is in session ; but beyond the discussion of the estimates, which leave nothing for public works, there has been no subject of general interest treated of. The session is likely soon to come to. a conclusion. There have been disquieting native rumours of late; but at present they are merely rumours. "We trust the native population will remain quiet for a few years, until dur out-settlements have been consolidated, and then we can have no fear of another rising. The native news will be found elsewhere. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand is now in session in Auckland. All the Presbyteries in connection with the Assembly are represented. The Eev. D. Bruce, Auckland, has been chosen Moderator. The Supreme Court is in session. The criminal calendar will be found elsewhere. Trade is dull. The weather is very fine, and with every prospect of continuing so. Details, of the month's news will be found in another part of our paper.
