RACING IN SYDNEY 4 Strephron Takes A.J.C. Plate CHAMPION UNDEFEATED

SYDNEY, April 7. The A. J.C. was favoured with ideal gate weather and attendance for the concluding day of the Autumn carnival. The track was heavy, due to recent rains. There were large fiekls, and unpopular fancies were the order of the day. The champion Victorian colt Strephon went through tlie meeting undefeated, enjoying an easy victory against a field of moderate performers in the Plate. Results: — Rous Handicap, 7 furlongs. — Racksa 1, Fuji San 2, Gilt Edge 3. Twenty-six started. Violian was the pacemaker early in the race from Casque D'Or and Venetian Lady. Passing the half mile Cleave was in charge, followed bv Venetian Lady and Racksa. Venetian Lady was in command at the distance, just clear of Racksa and Gilt Edge, with Fuji San oomine: fast on the outside. In a close finish Racksa won hy half a neclc. Timo, 1.28. Dangar Handicap, 1* miles. — Honan 1, Coloured and Loquaciou.s (deacl lieat) 2. Eighteen started. Soulton was the pacemaker at the start from Cntkin and Coloured. At the mile My Ladv Gay was in charge, with Honan, Catkin and Coloured. Then Honon took command from Love Box, Catkin "and Soulton. Honan. maintaining the advantage. won comfortably by half n Jength. Time, 2.34*. Second Steeplechase. ahout 3 miles. — Pamphire 1, Adit 2, Prinre Arim 3. Eight started, including Tuki. Myan and Tuki wcre together on the first round from Prinoe Arim and Adit. At the foot of the hill in the second round Mvan_ fell, leaving Tuki in charge. Adit joined Tuki at the top of the hill and led at_ the final jump from Samphire, Tuki and Prince Arim. Tn the run home Samphire outpace'd Adit and gained the vevdict by a length and ahalf. Time, 6.23§. Fernhill Handicap, 7 furlongs. — Firbolg 1, My Talisman 2, Peacemaker 3. Sixteen started. Malrina was the first to show out from My Talisman and Malyan. Ratter was in charge at the half mile. ahead of Malvina, Savannah and My Talisman. Turning for home, Malvina showed the way for Savannah and My Talisman, which took charge at the distance, but Firholg came with a late mn and gained the victory by three-quarters of a length. Time, 1.28. A. J. C. Plate, 2* miles. — Strephon 1, Black Duchess 2, Leadlight 3. Other starters: Valamita and Mondiaga. Black Duchess led from Strephon, Leadlight, Mondiaga and Valamita. Strephon then joinedv Black Duchess. The pair at seven furlongs were 30 lengths clear of Leadlight, Mondiaga and Valamita, The lastnamed broke down at the Ealf-mile. Strephon cleared away from Black Duchess turning for home and won with ease by fifteen lengths. Time, 3mins. 56secs. Final Handicap, 1$ nu'Ies. — "Vedding Eva 1, Don Mon 2, Sunflare 3. Fifteen started, including Gesto, which was first away from Valley, Don Moon and Lipari. Turning for home The Grindstone had charge from Lipari, New Sweet and Sunflare. Wedding Eve rau to the front at the distance, and in a close finish gained the verdict by half a neck. Time, 2mins. 6secs.
