THE HASTINGS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.
"FIRST AID."
To the Editor.
Sir, — The reeent visit cf the Minister of Health, tlie h011. A. J. Stallworthy, to tlie Hastings Memorial Hospital, has focussed on that institution certain interesting facts that demand puhlicity, together with an imme'diate remedy. Contemporaneous witli happenings of some fatal accidents in tlie near vicinity of tlie Memorial Hospital quite recently, the question urises, and requires an answer, "Is the joint agreement (referrcd to by his AVorship tlie Aiayor) between the Health Department, tlie Hawke's Bay Board and the Hastings conimittee, going to be honoured in fact, and spirit." The Hon. Minister of Health acknowledges tliat he is aware of the above arrangement, viz.. to provide accommodation for emergency and accident cases, and possihly Convalescent patients. It is unreasonable to sidetrack this important question by vague references to what the future will hring. It is shirkir** the issue. unloading urgent matters on possihilities that may never eventuate. We have to tac-kle the pre-sent-day Kappenings, and be in a position to handle them. Let the future look after its own requirements. — I am. etc..
