Main, general secretary of the Napier Y.M.C.A., was conpratulat^d hy the iiresident of the Napier Rotary Cluh this afternoon on his eleetion to the National presidency of the Emploved Officers' Association of the Y.M.C.A. A Mothers' Union meeting will he held in St. Luke's on Thursday afternoon at 2.30 to make arrangements for further monthly meetings. Mothers Iiving in that locality are particularly invitfed to attend and meet others interested in this mOvement. In the renort of the meeting of ratepayers of the Heretaunga riding on Friday night, it was stated that Mr T. E. Crosse, the retiring meniher for the riding on the Hawke's Bny County Council, hnd promised his hearty support to wlioever was selected hy the ratepayers. Mr Crosse states that he lias not promised support to any particular candidate. The loss sustained hy the Rev. J. A. Asher in the fire at St. Paul's Church was referrej to in sympathetic terms hy Rotarian P. Ashcroft at this afternoon' s lunchcon of the Napier Rotary Club. Having ministered there for over 30 years he must liave many associations with tlie church wTiich would be greatly missed hy liim. Tlie building, liowever, did not matter so long as ho had liis faithful congregation and he was sure that in the place of the old building there would arise a struct-nre worthy _ both of ; the ' peopleand of the religion it represented . These remarks wero supplemented hy Rotarian President T. PI._ Ringland, who'referred to the splendid, unselfish and distinguished services of the Rev. J. A. Asher during the period of over 30 years in which he had ministered to his congregation in Napier.
