OPEllATIONS OF PAST TWO YEARS REPORT BY ENGINEER.
A long report reviewing the work ii has done during its present term of offico was placed before the Napier City Council last night by the engineer, Mr G. F. Clapcott. The Mayor, Mr J. Vigor Brown, who had asked for the report, conimented that the council had achieved quite a good record. Tlie report dealt with the period from April 1, 1927, to April 1, 1929, and said : Concrete kerb and cliannel and stone channelling. — Six miles, 5 chains, have been carried out 011 the following streets : — Napier South. — Wellesley road, Nelson Crescent, Morris street, Vigor Brown street, Asliridge road, McVay street, Kinross Wliite Street. Hill roads. — Coote road, Thompson road, Hornsby road, Lighthouse road, Seapoint road, Cobden road, Clyde road, Lincoln road, Kipling Avenue, Colenso hill, Lucknow terrace, Conveut road, Havelock road, Faraday street. Port area. — Battery road, Campbell street, Ossian street, Breakwater road, Bridge street. STORM WATER DRAINAGE ' WORK. Stormwater drainage. — Two miles and 63 chains of stormwater piped drains were laid as follows: — Napier South. — Kinross Wliite street, McDonakl street, Asliridge rcad, Morris street, Vigor Brown street, Carnoll street, main drain Kennedy road to George's Drive, Nelson and DIcLean Parks. Port area. — Lever street, Campbell street, Battery road. Hill area. — Lucknow Terrace, Faraday street, Hyderabad road, Chaucer road, Flat. — Owen street, Vautier, Dalton street, Carlyle street. Concrete slabbing over deep street cliannels,also laying concrete slab pathways 40 chains eompleted as follows. — Seapoint road, Cobden road, Priestly road, Colenso path, Madiera steps, Tiffin Park, Cameron road, Milton road, Munro street, Browning street, Brewster lane, Hastings street. Street widening and rounding corners. — Napier Terrace (widening), Lincoln road (widening), Harvey road (corner), Cameron road (three corners), Ormond road (two corners). Milton Terrace (widening), Guy's Hill road (widening), Chaucer road nortli (corner). Faraday street (corner), Milton road (corner), Elizabetli road (corner), Cobden road (corner). WATER AND OTHER WORKS. "Water works Extensions : — Laying water mains 111 Lighthouse road extension, 11 chains. Water reticulation o'- Napier South extension, 1 mile 28 chains. Lawrence road, 20 chains j Cobden road, 5 eliains. Construction of foundation and iustallation of new high pressure pump and motor at the pumping station, and connecting same up to pumping mains. Laying 14 chains main Simla road. "Road Formation Work. — Faraday slreet extension; Battery road extension ; Havelock road, Napier Terrace, formation and construction of retaining walls. Thackeray street. extension, Hyderabad road, widening. Preparing and laying down in grass and shrubs, load flanks in George's Drive, Vigor Brown street, Bllison street, Carnell street, Shamrock street. Miscellaneous Works. — Supervision cf Harbour Board reclamation work, Battery road, also the filling-in and levelling of school ground at the Port. Iteelaiming six-acre bloek, Hyderabad road. Preparing camping ground, Napier South, and mstalling shelter and gas rings. Construction public conveniences, Napier South, Napier Terrace and municipal offices. Construction of cricket pavilion, Nelson Park, planting pines along south side Awatoto road and erecting guards Construction of hathing sheds, Te Awa and Port beach, constructing retaining walls Fitzroy road, Corry Avenue, Faraday street, Delhi road. Laying sewer Lighthouse road extension, 11 chains, and Battery road. Relaying sewers 011 paris of the hill area neeessary owing to old sewers beconu'ng fractured with roots. llegrading and metalling Ellisou street and 39 cliaius of McGratli street, Napier South". • "In addition to.the ahove-mentioned v'orks there has been a great deal oi private work carried out in connection with crossings, asplialting at the bcspital. and repair work for Telegraph Dcpartment in connection with czble laying. General maintenance 111 connection with roads and other public services attended to. "In reviewing the works embodied in this and the street surfacing return, it will be realised tliat in the past two years a very great deal of work has been carried out, and tlie result of such has given, iudging by the fiequent remarks passecl, satisfactiou tn tbe ratepayers and the public generally." Tlie report showed that 10 miles 57 chains of tar spray ing work on 31 streets, and a similar amount on 28 footpaths have been carried out. The engineer summarised the work carried out during the past three years as follows : — Total square yards of patlis surface dressed and paved 74.318; lengtli of roads sprayed and laid with liot mix, 16J miles; length of concrete kerb and cliannel eompleted, 19 miles.
