Good Sport Enjoyed By Large Attendance "TOTE" FIGURES UP In fair weather, witli a goodly attendance of the pubhc, tlie Autumn meeting of tlie Hawke's Bay Jockey C'lub was eoncludcd on Saturday. Excellent racing was witnessed in all events and a good day's sport enjoj-ed. j Large fields contested all events and i there were some exciting finishes. After the running of the J. D. Ormond Memorial Gold Cup, Mr T. H. Lowry presented the cup to the owner of tlie winner, Silver Paper, congratulatitig him on his suocess. !Mrs T. H. Lowry placed tlie ribbon round tlie hcrse's neck amidst the cheers of _ a large gathering. IMr W. Stone (trainer) accepted the cup on behalf of tbe owner, ]Mr J. Faulk, and returned suital/le thanks. When the Burke Memorial Stakes was finished the judge hoisted the figures 1 — G — 2, saying Cashier had, in his opinion, won the handicap. The horses Kaluted the judge in that order and were weighed in as eorrect. Some dissatisfaction was expressed and the official, after eonsultation. reversed the fiist two figures, placing Atholspear first, and Cashier second. The totalisator handled for the day £19,294, as compared with £19.539 for the second day last 3-ear. The total for the meeting was £32,899, as compared with £32,449 last 3-ear, an increase of £450. From a good start Miss Ransom, Helotis and jMoa Bird were first out and they held the lead to the turn, followed by Merry Mint and Roval Duke. At the straight entrance the field had elosed up. Royal Duke sent in a challenge and Great Charter eame veiw fast, these tuo overhauling •the leader. A stirring struggle down the straight resulted in lloyal Duke securing the verdict bv a fair liead, Miss Ransom a length awa37 third. Millais was fourth. Time, imin. 13 4-5sec-.
