Brain's Remarks Before Anderson Left. "Fooliiardy To Rush Off." Pilot L. J. Brain, who is credited with the finding of Lieutenant Anderson, is manager of tlie Quantas Air Serviee, Queensland. Before Anderson left Rvdney Pilot Biain emphasised tliat 'planes flying from the soutli to lielp Ihe Soutliern Cio.ss were facing a mucb bigger task tban moist people reahse, as the difliculties of tbe country were immcnse. "It seems foolbardiness to me," said Ali Brain, "to rush off unsuitable r.iaebines from Sydnev to a part of tbe country wliere. even in tlie most favourable eonditions, flying is an exLiomely bazardous proposition. "It seems a bad policy to take a ri.sk of piling up more trouble, that might result from ill-equippcd maehines starting out. It is possible tliat, if tbe Southern Cross is (1amaged, Kingsi'ord-Rmitb and Ulm might lie missing for upwards of a fortnight, and then tuni up again sufely."
