WELLINGTON. Last night. The late Keith Andorson was only "2 years of age. He was born 111 South Africa. hut at an early age went ro Australia. His lather dind when he was very young. Anderson was only 18 years 0" age when lie went to the front. A»t tlie end of 191G he joined up with the Royal Flying Corps and saw active service in France. He also did consiclerahle flying in EngIand. "When lie returned to Australia lie took a position as an air mail pilot 011 tlie Perth to Derhy and Perth to Kalgoorlie air mail services. Tn 1923 Kingsford-Smith and Anderson flew two Bristol tourers from Pertli to Sydnev straiglit across Australia to start in the. Tnter-State Flying Service, Ltd., with headquarters in Svdney. After they had heen flyiug for some months, Smith and TJlm did the round Australia fiight in 10} days. Anderson and Hitcliford. accompanied by II. C. Vivian, took a second bus. and followed close on their heels, doing the trip in 14 days 2 hours. The latter flyers did the longest non-stop flight that had been dnne in Australia — namely, from Wyndham to Broome, whieh is praetically right aeross the spot where the Southern Crnss was reeently foxind. A men ea, to organise the trans-Pacifle Right, but through lack of funds and personal reasons Anderson returned to Sydney, and in the Jiieantime Smith and Ulm eompleted the trans-Pacific flight. Just prior to his death Anderson had bought a Westland Widgeon and was secretlv preparing a non-stop flight from Brisbane to ITohart, a distance of approximately 1300 miles. Anderson was ongaged to Miss ' Bon" Hilliaid, of Sydney, and they were to have been married at the end cf May. His mothor is st ill in Perth.
