TE AWA SCHOOL.

There was a large attendance at the To Awa School room last evening for tlie annual householders' meeting, when tlie following committee was elected : — Arr 4Y. Smith, 35 votes ; Air J. Hayhurst, 33; Air H. H. Berry, 31; Alr T. Cliaiilow. 31; Air G. Keeble, 29; Air T. H Huglies, 29; Air AYorkmaii, 25; Air R. Glover, 24; Air Gilroy, 23. Tliere were 16 nominations, including tliree ladies. Air S. H. Alorrison presided over the meeting, and Air G. Keeble was elected secretary for tlie evening. Air H. H. Berry (cliairman of the retiring committee) read tlie annual report, which stated that the school liad again made great progress during tlie year. The number of proficieney passes had not been as great as in previous years, but all the pupils were now doing well, and the staff were lioping for a greater measure of success tliis year. Tlie inspectors' report was tlie best that liad been received so far. The dux of the .school for the past year was Charles Corne, who had put up a splendid record. The committee wislied to exjucss their appreciation of the efforts of tlic .staff and eongratulate them 011 tho cxccllent work done. Tlie nvorage attendance for the year was 230, with a roll. This liad been greatlv improved tliis year so far, the roll to date being 265, and still growing. which pointcd to another successful year being recorded. A great amount of work had been put into the grounds dnring the year, tlie portions between the two school buildings and the westcrn side having been tar-sealed, while ji good deal of filling in had also been done. for the. use of the infauts, and had proved a great boon. Tlie work of erecting this was carried out by tho committee at a cost of approximately £15. The annual ball was held and was a great success, the net proceeds being £35, which liad been expcnded 011 tlie ground improvements. Tho committee desired to thank the lieaduiastcr and staff, as well as the members of tlie Ladies' Social Committee, for tlie splendid work they had put in, wliicli had made tlie funetion a record success. A concert was also held during tlic year to provide funds fova playing area' for tlie infant department, and liaTl resiilted in a suin of «lightly over £5. The annual garden tete, held during the Summer months, resulted in another £35 being raised for the benefit of tlie school. The school picnic was lield at Eskdale in grounds placed at the disposal of tlie committee by tlie manager of France House (Mr Phillips), aud was thorouglily enjoyed bv the children, as well as evervone elsc concei ned. The committee desired to express their tlianks to tlie visiting clergy for thcir valuable scryices during "tlie year. Coiigratulations were oxtcndcd to tlic scliool crickct tcam, as well as thcir eoacb (ATr Bicliards), for tbe splendid perforiiianee they liad put ii)) in winning the Napier Sehools Cup. Tlie foothnll tcam had also given a very good account of themselves. As rcgards swimming, tlic scliool for tlie first time liad entered a tenm for the McGliee Alemorial Cup, and they had put up a very good performance. It was Jioped to eiithuse more interest into the swimming during the coming year. Tlie girls of tlie school had keenly followcd up the game of basketball. Tlie committee had met fortnightly during the year, as well as holding combined meetings witli the Ladies' Social Committee. Tlie members of tlie latter body had worked exceedingly liard for tlie hencfit of the school, and tlie hope was expressed tliat, they would continue their useftil work, The balanoo sheet showed eredit balances of £13 Is 5d spec-ial account and £5 19s 9d general account. The report concluded by extending the best tlianks of tlie committee to all pnrents and friends for their valuable assistance during the year. Tlie report was adopted, 011 the motion of Air Berry, seconded by Air Huglies. , Tlic election of the Ladies' Social Committeo thon took place, the whole of tlie committee heing elected, with tlie addition of Alrs Boardman, Alrs Lott and Alrs L. Berry. Votes of thanks to tlie retiring committee and chairman were moved by Air W. Smith, seconded by Air Lott, and carried by acclamation. A vot© of tlianks was also lieartily nc-corded to tlie headmaster (Air J. T. Dalyl and tlie staff, 011 the motion of Air A. Dykes, seconded bv Air R. Glovor, Air Daly replying in suitable temis. The new committee then retired for their first meeting, when Air H. H. Berry was elected chairman and Air T. Chaplow secretary.
