Great indignation is felt in Waipawa at the actiou of the Llawko s Bay Education Board in again hlielvlng tlie erection of a new publie scho'il i:i Waipawa. Tlie board's vacillation, tliough people call it by a slronger worcl, is roundly condemned, and the opinion is expressed that a clear-cut statement should he made whether it is proposed to build a school or not. To dodge arouud, lirst putting it tliinl 011 the urgency Jist and then relegating it to tciith or even worse, is very exasperating. In the meantime, 011 many a colcl day, quite young children can be- seen receiving tuition in a draughty porcli instead of in a comtortable room. Dannevirke Elections. What "The Covered Waggoiv' was to tlie west, "The Birth of a Nation" was to tlie south, "Way Down East" was to New England, is just wlmt "The Trail of '98" is to the far north. It is only once in a great while that film prociueers suceeecl in turning out a rea] epic. Not that they don't try ; it's hecause there isn't enough material of the right kind to make many epics. But Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has eertainly liit 011 a story of epic: quality in "Tlie Trail of '98," whieh is to he shown at tlie Waipukurau Theatre 011 Saturday and Monday next. Included in tlie enorpious cast are Dolores Del Rio, Ralph Forbes, Harry Carey, Karl Dane, Tully Marshall, Geovge Cooper and Emily Fitzroy. Because there is not space to give. a lengthy review of "The Trail of '98" ive must be content to say it's a great picture, marvellous]y directed ancl the eharacters well portrayed. Tt is a picture that will help the' motion picture reach the plane it is bound for — one of tlie fine arts. To be sure of seats reserve early.
