PROPOSED NEW SERYICE TO BLUFF. Arrangements Proceeding.

Tlie announcement that a passenger shipping service is to be establishcd sliortlv between 5Ielbourne, Hobarc and tlie Bluff was nyule by Sir Walter I.ee, Minister of Lands and Public Works in Ta-sniania, wlio arrived by tlie Ulimaroa. He sajd that negotiations with Sir Josepli Ward had not proceeded Far enough to make a de finite statement. A good deal depended on the attitude of the 57ictorian Government. Some form of snbsidy would have to be provided, to induce tlie shipping companies to run a service. Tbe main ndvantnges of tbe scheme would be to dispense with trans-shipping. Tf it were decided to establish the service, the Netv Zealand Government would probably call tor tenders. The service would be fortnightly and the vfssels would run from the Bluff to Melhourne, to ITobart and back to tbe Bluff. There was a possibility of t.iails also being carried.
