INDUCT1UN SERVICE LAST EVEN - EVENING. LARGE CONGREG ATION AT TRINITY C'HURCH.
The Rev W. J. Oxbrow, of Hastings, presided lasb evening at the 111duction of the Rev. W. G. Slade, M.A., the newly appointcd minister to Napier Trinity Metbodist Churcb. The service was conducted in the chureli and was attended by a largo congregation. After the singing of a bymn, prayer was oft'ered and tben Mr Slade was presented to Mr Oxbrow by tlie circuit steward, Mr J. M. Bruce. The chairman followed tlic order of service for such occasions, wliicli consists in the taking of a solemn pledgc by the new Minister to faithfully carry out his duties as tlie pastor of the congregation and circuit and also a pledge by the congregation tliat they will cooperate with and support tlieir minister in all the work of his ministry. These pledges were followed by prayer, and afterwards the chairman delivered an interesting ancl timely address in keeping with the occasion. At tlie close of the service the congregation adjournecl to the school hall, where a social function was carried. out. Mr G. O. Laws occupied the chair, others present on the platform being tlie Rev. F. de Lisle, the Adjutant of tlie Salvation Army, Mr W. E. Barnarcl, M.P.. and Mr C. H. Bisson. A cordial wclcome was tendered to the Rev. IV. G. Slade by the Rev. F. de Lisle, on belialf of the Napier Ministers' Association and the members of the Congregational Churcb. Mr C. H. Bisson, who voiced the feeling of tlie Trinity congregation and circuit, spoke most effeetivelv, and stressed the need for tho fullest cooperation between tlie pew and tlie pulpit, giving the new minister a most hearty welcome, and promising tliebest efforts of tbe olficials and members in support of the work of the minister. Mr W. E. Barnard, 3M.P.. gave Mr Slade a welcome to Napier, sympathised with bim in tbe difficulties of tbe ministerial office as compared witb fifty years ago, and assured bim that be woulcl find himself amongst a friendly people. Mr R. Thomas exprossed tlie pleasure of Ihe youth of tlie elnirch at IMr Slacle's appointment, and pledgod the fullest co opcration of that department with tlie minister. The chairman then hriefly introduced tlie Rev. W. G. Slade to the gatliering. who tliapkod tlie ladies and officials for tlieir very kindly welcome to Napier for tlie tangible expressions of kindness and goodwil] alreadv received by Mrs Slade and himself He toucbed Hriefly 011 tlie pledge be bad taken in tlie nrevious service, and trusted tliat as time went on lie would liave ample opnortunitv of making it good. During tbe evening items were oontributecl by iMisses M. Doan ancl Gwen Dalton and Messrs Nuttall and lan Primc. At tlie conclnsion s upper was dispensed bv tlie ladies and a most snceessfnl function closed witb tbe BenedicHon.
