MEETING OF C1TIZEXS' LEAGUE. MANY /MATTERS DISCUSSED.
There was a large attendance of ralepayers at tho annual meeting of the Te Awa Citizens' Lcague on Wedncsdav night, when the Mayor, Alr J. Yigor Brown, presided. There were als > present Ors. F. Rice, A. E. Beckford. C. I). C'ox, J. St. J. Hindmarsh and Mr S. G. Ellison. a candidate for eleetion to the couneil. 'Ihe /Mayor, in declaring the meeting open, outjined work ])roposed for tlie iuture. Speeial referenee was made ta George's Drive, for tho further imjirovemcnt of whieh the couneil had in hand a mihi of £1100. whieh would be utilised as soon as ever the usual legnf formnlitics had bcen finalised. GEXERAL MATTERS. A general diseussion on civic matter.s took plaee, questions being askod of iho 31ayor and councillors. Oue matter brought to their notice was the very unsatislactory state of the approaeh to the To Awa School. It was pointed out that with the slightest rain tho roacl became in such a bad stato that children were unable to reaeh school dry-shod. Councillors promised early consideration. In some parts of Napier South footpaths are liighcr tlian the adjoining scetions, and one ratepayer wanted to knoiv the cau.se of.tliis and ivliether it eould Ve rectified. The Mayor explained that the street levels were fixed for all time, ancl section owners should ascertain tliese when laying out their properties. If, however, there were any cases whcre it was thought footpaths had been raised abovo tlie proper level he woulcl, on being supplied with the necessary details, vequest the engineer to look into the m after. Mention ivas mado hy Mr G. Keehle of the hope of McGrath street residents tliat the couneil woulcl construct a subwav leading under the railway line to the Alarine Parade, and the Mayor undertook to have an estimate of the cost prepared.
