HAWKE'S BAY MAKES A PROTEST.
WELLINGTON, Last niglit. Eleven nominations for thc selcctiou cenimil tee for tlie 1929 season wcrc rcceived hy the management committee of tho New Zoaland Rtigbv Union, and an election resulted in the following bcing afquiintc'd : — Messrs K. McKenzic (Wairarapa). N. MtKenzie ' Hawke's Bav), W. Maxwell (Canterbury), G. Niclinlson (Auckland), A. KlcDonald (Otago), A. J. Geddes iSottfhlaiid). rITie others nominated were: W. Watson (Nelson), R. R. Masters (Canter'oiuy), Adams (West C'oasl), A. J. Griffiths (Wellington), and W. A. Guy (Taranaki). Mr E. McKonzie was reappointod as chairman of tho sclcctio'n committee. It was decided'that the suggestion should he brought hofore dolegatcs at the annual meeting of the union on Mav 16. "We will have to play undcr international rules while the British team is with us," reniarked Afr Dean, "and the sooner tve give our players _ a chance to faniiliarise themsclvcs with these rules tho better." The. TTawko's Bay TTnion wrote protesling ngainst the enrlv tour to Austvalia. this year. Tlie Hawke's Bay T'nion also protested against tho allotting of June 3 as a dato for an All Blacks' trial match. hfr Dean said ho sympatliised to a eertain extent with Hawke's Bay, but it had to he rememhercd that no matter what date was fixcd upon for a trial match it would interfere with some union. "Porsonallv, I copsider tho tour to New South Wales this season is most esscntial, in order to build up our team to meet tho British side next year. Some of our players are getting on in years and it is imperativo that the solectors should try out mtr most promisirig young players. A tour to Australia with a team including a leavening of expericnccd players would he a valuahlo training for our younger men." "Let there he no mistake about it, we will want our very best team to rcpol the British invasion," said a mcmher.
