The High Comniissioner further stated that the article 111 question jioints out, firstly, that tlic shrinkage of the exports from tho Argentine is continuous, the fignres for 1928 ehowing a reduction of 24 per cont. over those for 1027 ; seeondly, that owing to the shortage in nuniber of cattle and the growth of the population of tho United States, a considerahle amonnt of beef is being ini]iorted into that country from Canada and even New Zealand, despite the tariff harrier, and the opinion is expressed that the United States will he compelled to widen the field from which imports are taken.
