HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.

A WELL-WISHER.

To the Uditor. Rir, — AVhy AYednesday half-holiday and run tl;e risk of losing whatever

trade couies onr wayr ix is xo nc ! rogretted that a section of our coiri- ! munity have thought fit to upset the j pleasant business relations that have 1 existed for many vears for a, mere | mare's nest that, if adopted, is going to add to tlie number of our unemployed — of tliis there is 110 doubt whatsoever. , . It is a well-known fact that Napier for many vears past has been divided 111 matters of tlie utmost concern, which have been a great factor in retarding progress, and here again we are up against another scheme to furtlicr retard progress. AVhat is to he gained by tlie cbange? AA'ill it bring more business to tlie town? If so— from wlicnee, Bo you tlu'nk that our largest concerns in tliis town ean be coerrnl into taking tliis false etep? No! Tliev have threshed the matter out from every point of view, and liavo decided 111 tlio interest of the town to leave things as they are and vote for Saturday half-liolidny. Bon't be influenced by tliose who have 110 interest in the town to vote AVednesday, but consider for yourself, wife and family which day is going to be best for tlie general progress of the town, and when you have done that thinkiug you Tvi 11 undouhtedly vote for Ratui'clay as a day of rest or pleasure. Our trouble lies in copcerning ourselve.s too mnch as to whnt our neighh'ours are doing ; concentrate on vour own town and boost it ; make your premises inside and out more attractivc, and your sorviee, let it he without ' a fault, and you will have nothing to fear. Can any of us alford to plav with matters of tliis sort when in many instances our whole exi.stencc depends on it? Decidedly not. Vote Saturday. Remember that Saturday nltimatelv will he the universal half-holiday. — f

am, etc.,
