ELECTION NOTICES. HASTINGS MAY OR AL ELECTION. J^ADIES & GENTLEMEN, I beg to inform you that I am a candidate for the Mayoralty. I have resided in Hastings and the vicinity for the last 45 years, and all my business intcrests are in the town. I have long, practical experience as a member and as Chairman of Local ■ Bodies, which I trust you will consider fully qualify me for the position. For several years I was a member of your Borough Council, and for about fourteen years I was one of your Representatives on the Education Board. and for ten vears I was Chairman of that Board. I was also a member of the Napier Higli Seliool Board and of the H.B. Hospital Board for a period. In my opinion. tbe. oolicv of the late Mayor and Council was sound and cominendable and it would be my ambition, if elected, to continue and develop it. I haye made tentative arrangements that wil] enahle me, should I be elected. to give tlie whole of my time and attention to your business if necessary. While recognising that every Electoi has tlie right to vote as she or he pleases, I would respectfully solicit your vote and interest, and should you glect me I assure you I will leave nothing undone to maintain tlie dignitv of the offiee and to promote the welfare and progress of Hastings in every way possible. Yours respectfully, G. F. ROACH. HASTINGS MAYORALTY. VOTE FOR G1LBERT McKAY. PROGRESS AND STABIL1TY. CIT1ZENS, — ■ 1 oijer you my services as Mayoi knowing that my forty years' residence in Hawke's Bay, and the practical experience gained in local governing bodies, including Town Board, Road Boards, County Councils, Education Board, Hospital Board, Board of Governors, Hastings High School, and many other smaller, but important, institutions, besides having represented Hawke's Bay in Parliament for three years, I can make reasonable claim to having a sound capacity for leadership which tends to unity of action and good team work. I woukl support extension of Hastings Memorial Hospital to admit convalescent and emergency cases, the removal from Napier of the A. & P. Society's offiee to Hastings, a more equitable system of taxation by a revision of values— approaching stock brokers re alteration of sale day from Wednesday. Promote the business interests of the town by friendly cooperation with the primary producers in Hawke's Bay, and appeal to the powers that be to rffore closely settle large acres of good land_ in the suburban and outer areas, giving greater opportunity for workers to obtain from three to ten acres, on which to make their homes. Whrald also give whole-hearted support to the Plunket Society, District Nursing Association, and sucli other institutions who care for the sick and less fortunate. That all borough departments should stand 011 their own feet, making financial proyisions for progressive extensions. Finally, that the town's administration should be conducted on sound business lines. In conclusion, I would appeal to the electors to give me tlieir unanimous support not only on acconnt of my qualifications, but that I am prepared to do my utmost in their interests in general.
