THE POSITION IN HASTINGS. AN APPEAL BY THE MAYOR. Tlie Mavor. at last night' s meeting of the Hastings Borough Council, stressed tlie need of the council doing sometliing to relieve the nnemplovment position in Hastings. _He stated that tiiere Ivere over 60 registered unemploved at the borough engineer's office and the need for some relief wns urgerit. He had anpealed to the Labour Department but had not heen successful and be reeemmended tliat the council procped with tlie rontinuation of the widening of Makirikiri creek at Beatsnn's Park, for a further distance of eight ebains towards the eamning ground.
