MILITARY BOXING TOURNEY. HAWKE'S BAY REGIMENTAL CHAMPIOXSHIPS. The annual boxing tourney of the First Battalion Hawke's Bay Ilegiment, was held this year in a new tsetting, that of the Waipukurau lheatre. The theatre was packed with a good crowd last evening. when some splendid bouts were witnessed. Col. W. H. Cunningham, D.S.O., was present and opened the proceedings. The judges (Lieut. Ivimey and Mr A. ('. Russell) and the" referee (Capt. M. E. Johnson, M.C.), carried out their duties most satisfactorily. Unfortunately, ma 113' of the scheduled contestants were unable to pass the medical test, owin.- to an epidemic of colds, but the bouts 011 tlie whole were excellent, a liigh standard being maintained. Final : Gibson (Waipukurau) beat Pye (Masterton). "Middleweiglrt. — Ivnox beat Milne. Final : Fergusson (Hastings) beat Knox (Gisborne). Heav^-weight. — Bolton beat Hayden. Final : Bolton (Masterton) beat O'Halloran (Gisborne). CHAMPIOXSHIPS. Open Bantamweight. — Private Hutchison (Hastings) beat Hance-Corp. Smales (Wapiukurau). Liglit Heavyweiglit. — Lieut. Ahrens (Ala^terton) beat Lance Corp. Thompson (Hastings), in a thrilling bout. Middleweight. — Lance-Corp. Burton (Hastings) beat Private Bull (Masterton). Mr A. C. Russell's medal for the most scientific boxer was won by Ahrens. Points were won by the various companies as follows. — C. Company 17^, Headquarters 11$, D. Company 8.
