SLANDER CASE OVER OLD MURDERS.
WELLIA GTOiN , This day. Before Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., _ a slander action is proceeding in which £300 is sought from Jessie Jackson, married, of AVehb strcet, hy Emma Mulcahy, married. of Wellington. It is claimed that the defendant sent a letter to Mr Hardie Boys, a solieitor, and Mr Mulcahy, plaintiff's husband, which allegedly iuentified plaiutiff with a womaii named Smith, who once stood her trial for the niurder of oue Conway, and whose story was recently rccalled in the press hy telograph messages from Auckland, a elipping of which was enclosed with the letter, Tt is claimed that hy the letter and clippinsr the defendant' meant that the plaiutiff liad, by poison, murdered oue Conway and oue Brown, and that in respect to the death of Conway slie was under suspicion of murder and that slie liad eommitted a criminal offence in administering poison ; that slie was a person of no renute hy rcasnn of the su^nieions nttaching to the actions. The case is proceeding.
