April 28. ; A great tliank otfering fund i'or the j King's rccovery was initiated by an | anonyinous donor, who. tn a lctlcr to j Lord Slanil'ordliam signed "Aiulax," said that in view of His Alajesty's gracious lctter to the jieop'e referring to his long illness and rccovery, "I wish to give oxpression in some tangiblo form to the relief and gratitude wliieli i share witli all His Alajesty's sulijccts. T should like to liiaiie a gift to lielp forward some ea use wliich in a special degree bas tlie King's personal svtnpatliy nnd interest and will bo a lasting benefit to the eommunity." The writer addod tliat tlie most approprintc objeet appoarcd to be Iving Edward's Hospital Fund for London, for which ]iurpose lie proposcd setting aside 100,000 giiineas, spread over seven years, in the hope that it would be the nuclcus of a large thank offering fund. Lord Rtmnfordham, after consultation with the Iving, sont a letter to tlie firad, saving tliat His Majesty apprcciatcd the kindlv thonght and generosity of "Audax" and shared the hope that the gift would bo the nncleus of a lnrgor fund. The King's illness had brought home to him more clearly than ever tlie resonrces of modern medical science and the value of devoted Tiursing. Afedical science owes much of its development to the great hospitals, which also constitue an ndmirable trainimr ground for the nur-sing nrofession. Tbe secrctaries of the hospital fund aniionnce that they are opening a thank offering fund.
