SIR HARRY LAUDER, THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER.
An accident is the real reason of the present visit of Sir Harry Lauder to New Zealand. While 7>ffiying lend 111 the production oi a British film Sir Harry was unfortunate in having several ribs fractured, which lcd to complicatioris and when convalescent his physiciau ordered him a long sea voyage and temporary retirement from tlie stage. Sir Harry decided to take tlie first real holiday and selected Ne\y Zealand as the countrv which would afford him greatest scope for his fayourite liobby, fishing. His many friends throughout the Dominion welcomed the announcement that he was coming out and cabled invitations to be their guest, but Sir Harry preferred to just come out without any set programme and come and go whereever his fancy took him. Accompanied hy his niece, Miss Greta Lauder, Sir Harry sailed from Southampton and was farewelled by his close friend and clirector of many tours, Mr E. J. Carroll, and there was then 110 suggestion of business between them. Sir Harry had reckoned without his host of admirers, for no sooner had he landed in Wellington than he was inundated with requests for just a few professional appearances, and wherever lie went tliev followed him in the form of wires, letters and deputations. Feeling again fit and well and for peace sake he finally agreed and cabled Mr E. J. Carroll asking if it was possible to arrange a brief tour ere he returned to England. The answer to that cable was. "Yes, certainly, my pleasure, and'so it is that seekers of genuine entertainment will have an opportunity of seeing the world's greatest entertainer. With an entirely new company of Interna_tional stars Sir Harry will appear in Napier at tli6 Mujiicipal Theatre for two' nights. commencing on Friday next, and the box plans of reserved seats will be available at Howe Bros from Wednesdav morning. ^All applications for seats from country patrons will be dealt with by Howe Bros. strictly in order of receipt.
